Ducson Nguyen, Democratic candidate for Common Council alderperson for Ithaca’s 2nd Ward, has received the endorsement of Svante Myrick, mayor of Ithaca. Myrick, who has held the office since 2012, praised Nguyen’s understanding of and attention to local issues.
“Ducson is intelligent and compassionate,” said Myrick. “He will be able to digest complex issues in representing 2nd ward citizens’ concerns.”
A software engineer at GrammaTech, an Ithaca-based cybersecurity research firm, Nguyen is passionate about living in Ithaca and helping maintain a high quality of life for everyone in the city. As alderperson for the 2nd ward, he hopes to better connect residents with city services and improve engagement in civic issues.
“Ducson is driven to address the housing crisis that is increasingly pricing out longtime residents and contributing to unsustainable sprawl,” Svante stated. “Like me, he walks to work every day and cares about pedestrian and bicyclist safety, while appreciating the need to improve all infrastructure.”
“I’m honored to have the mayor’s support, as he has long been an advocate for affordable housing, sustainable living, and inclusive government,” Nguyen said. “I look forward to having the opportunity to represent the 2nd ward’s interests, helping Svante understand the ward’s voice in these issues.”
The mayor acknowledged the importance of this role. “Ducson Nguyen is accountable to the people,” Myrick stated. “He has the community’s needs at the heart of his priorities and truly wants to serve this city. Please join me in supporting him.”
